well today was a day of very mixed feelings for me. so much emotions both good and bad. my day has been like a rollercoaster, and as an end result, i caught a very bad cold due to all the strain on my immune system.
The good news today was... I WON MY LEGAL CASE !!! the taxi owner has settled out of court and is paying: FULL legal fees, car assesment fee, full amount of money owed for my mr2's repairs. i was stoked, like seriously. i was so happy i almost cried, i even bought a 24 pack of sapporo beer to drink with friends. that is, untill...
Tonight, when i checked the AUD vs JPY exchange rate. oh shit !
i havnt watched TV in years or read a newspaper (i dont like australias media), but i have always kept up to date on financial events, always without fail i check the exchange rates and currency values of the world atleast twice per week.
However the last two weeks well i have been so busy and stressed that i have not kept an eye on the currency. so tonight when i check to see that the AUD (which was last worth 87JPY) is now worth 72JPY, i was in shock. my heart sunken. i was defeated, my mind in complete worry.
well that happy emotion was very short lived, and i now dont really feel like drinking those beers.
After a few hours of stressing, i accepted things, and gained SOME (as in a small amount) of optimism. I have accepted i will no longer get 87JPY for my dollar, so im prepared to cut my losses and HOPE that in the time from today untill july 20, that the AUD can recover and buy me 80JPY... basically i would loose pretty much HALF the amount between 72JPY and 87YPY... 80PJY for 1AUD is a happy medium that im willing to accept.
this is one of the few times you will ever hear my "cheer on" australia, but... GO AUSTRALIA !! COME ON !! WE CAN DO IT !! LET OUR ECONOMY RECOVER !!

omg the economy really dropped!
hmm where did you change ur money? try the one on swanston st, next to hot potatoes (that selling australian sourvenir), the rate is the best, no fee, and its even better if u're a student(discount!)
Hey Amelia, i didnt change my money. im going to wait till july because i predict about 82JPY per dollar.
but each time i go to japan i never do exchange, i deposit money into my bank (as AUD) then i withdraw at 7eleven ATMs in yen. that way i can get the best exchange and not pay fee.
Hey satoh, yeah wait for a while. it should go back up by a bit at least by july. 7elevens are great ways to 'exchange money' somehow they charged me an 'overseas fee' last though. Cheer up, things should get better for you soon ^_^ jya~!
Hey Kenichiro..
The exchange rate is rather cyclical (at least in respect to USD). Usually, when the Yen is strong, the US shys away from Japanese products. Then Japan's economy starts to suck, making the Yen weak. Which makes people in the US buy more Japanese products because they are cheaper. Which makes the Yen strong....
Terry. yep they charge a small fee of like 2 dollars per transaction, but rest of the fee is from your bank. i have a special gold VISA account that i dont pay any international fees :P hehe.
Seoulsearcher. i agree, it ends up being a ring or a cycle, never ending. i know now that AUD is weaker, japan will do more trade with australia for things like beef etc and that should bring the AUD up a bit due to increased forign trade, especially from japan.
